Colonial Bird 5-Pounds Feeder Review

I'm trying to order one of these (temp out of stock) to replace the one that I bought back in the early to mid 1990's.

This feeder holds a lot of seed! Every type of local bird seems to love this feeder. Even Love Pigeons try to feed at it but can only figure out how to land on top of it - to big to actually feed at it. Like I said I'm replacing one from the 90's which has suffered a cracked missing piece on one of the feeding stations. This I'm guessing is due to some type of damage (broken tree branch?) from a recent storm. There does appear to be a design change - mine has a rod that goes through the center which serves two purposes - one it has a mounting hook to hang the feeder from and two - unscrewing it will remove the top in order to fill it up. This one says you just lift up on the top lid.

There is clear plastic on the windows so you monitor the amount of seed left without having to open it up.

Squirrels will be able to feed at it so remember to place it at least six feet off the ground and eight feet away from anything they can leap from. Mine is hung from a wire that goes up about 20 feet to a large branch. The squirrels have never figured it out.

Anyway - highly recommend this feeder. It looks great, tough and durable, holds a ton of food and was developed with help from the Cornell Laboratory of Ornithology (according to the literature).
