Birds Choice Layered Rock Waterfall Review

I purchased this to keep the water in a small backyard pond moving, both to prevent mosquitoes from laying their eggs in it, and to keep the water aerated a bit for my goldfish. The "rock" doesn't look anything like it does in the picture - it's a piece of black plastic-like material. I would have returned it based upon that alone, but it was past the date to do so - I had purchased it in the winter, and didn't even open the box to look at it until I was ready to have it installed. (Lesson learned!) "Waterfall?" There's a joke - the water barely trickles. The pump died after about a month - this is nothing but a piece of junk.

Heath Outdoor Products AH-12SR 12/6 Room Convertible Aluminum Martin House Review

The product comes completely disassembled and I recommend running through the parts list to ensure each piece is there, because mine contained the wrong pieces and I had to call the customer support number. Which I wanted to dock some stars for, but after a quick call to Heath's customer service I can't possibly drop the star rating. They were friendly fast and shipped the missing parts out right away. Wonderful when companies stand behind their products.

You will only need two tools to assemble this house (a Flat head screw driver, and some pliers) and several hours of free time.

The instructions for assembly are not the best but with some time and thought they can be figured out. I managed to build the entire thing by myself, but having a friend would make the assembly easier. At first I was worried about the sturdiness of the overall structure but with the addition of each element birdhouse grew more and more solid. Until the final result is a very durable, good looking martin house. Each floor is it's own unit and is held in place by a center piece that can be screwed down into the bird pole to remain in place. This makes for easy addition of more floors and cleaning, as you merely have to unscrew the centerpieces and slide them down the birdpole to gain access to the insides. The exception to this is the roof, which is attached to the top floor. Entry to these rooms is still possible as every SREH (starling resistant entrance hole) comes as a seperate piece which can be slid out to leave a square opening approximately 7 inches wide, more than enough room for your hand. Or after sliding the lower levels down, the floor pieces of each room can be snapped off in seconds for even faster cleaning.

According to many purple martin websites, the measured dimensions are (supposedly) the exact dimensions/size that purple martins look for when choosing a nesting site. As I got this martin house set up late in the season, I will have to wait till next year to see if it attracts purple martins. But apparently they like them, because I see one lucky reviewer already has purple martins. Can't wait for my own colony!

Heath Outdoor Products DD-19 BlueBerry Dough Suet Cake, Case of 12 Review

I bought a case of this blueberry suet dough along with a case of the apple dough made by the same company, Heath Outdoor Products. If you're unfamiliar with suet dough and its advantages over the other stuff, than let me tell you that the dough has it all over regular suet. Its consistency is firmer and less slimy, making it a stand up in any temperature, much easier to handle, and above all, the birds around these parts can't get enough of it. The only problem with this brand however is that its an inferior mix. It's suet dough all right, but whereas a good dough stays firm and handles very well, this has more of a cheap slippery texture to it and falls apart easily. The birds still prefer it over regular suet, but its obviously not as good as the more expensive but tried and true suet dough made by C&S products, (available locally here at Tractor Supply Co, as well as on Amazon). At the time I bought my cases of Heath, it was less than a dollar a cake, and shipped for free when bundled, making it not a bad deal even with it not being the best quality for sure. But this dough has a tendency to increase in price quite dramatically at times for no reason, and then goes back down again. I can only recommend this dough and its apple flavored counterpart if it stays at or below a dollar a cake. Otherwise its definitely not worth it considering the inferior quality of it. One last thing, this dough and the apple flavored doesn't ship for about a month after ordered. A very long wait by Amazon standards. Just another reason to keep an eye on the price and look elsewhere if it gets expensive...

Update: Since the writing of this review the summer heat has arrived. Unfortunately this doughs inferior quality has definitely shown itself to be what it truly is, terrible. It has turned extremely slimy, falling apart at the slightest touch, and it only seems to appeal to mostly squirrels at this time. Suet dough is NOT supposed to ever be affected by the heat. (That's what makes it suet dough). I now don't recommend this dough at any price. I am going to put all mine out for the squirrels this summer and be done with it. Avoid...

The feeder does what it's designed to do - almost. The construction and workmanship is crude, buy acceptable considering the price paid. But where are you Orioles supposed to perch while they enjoy the oranges you mount on each end? Red Carpet Studios Birdie In The Woods Birdhouse, 14-Inch Tall, Old Man Face Review

I purchased this whimsical old man bird house because I thought it looked like my husband! LOL! I am a bird house lover and this was so unique I had to have it. We have it up on a telephone pole in our back yard. It's been up for a couple of years now. On the upside, it's the most unusual birdhouse I have and the commentary on it is constant. On the downside, I have never seen a single bird go inside the nose. I would LOVE to see this and if it ever happened, a photo of that moment would be worth a thousand words.

Maybe it's because there is no perch for the birds to sit on under the opening in the nose; apparently it's difficult to fly up and into the nose. Not that I myself would ever want to fly up and into someone's nose so maybe that's the same reason no birds ever go inside this bird house!

It's a novelty for sure! I don't regret the purchase because it's a fun addition to my birdhouse world! I also purchased another 'old man' birdhouse to compliment this one and they are pretty cute one above the other on our telephone pole. Here is the other version which is softer and just as unique:

The quality is excellent! This birdhouse should stand the test of weather and time for years and years, unlike a lot of other birdhouses out there. There is nothing flimsy about this, the construction is well done. I'd give it 5 stars if the birds actually used it; the design and uniqueness of it are exceptional!
