I was looking for a hummingbird feeder that would add a touch of color to my yard. We looked at other chandeliers (3+) and felt that they were a little too much. This one is prefect, two glass holders give a little bling and touch of color without being over the top. The glass holders themselves are beautiful, hand blown glass with the right amount of lucidity to pick of light like a little hanging gemstone! I own another Parasol feeder in the darker blue and it really needs to be in direct sunlight to catch the light, but this Aqua color is just right. The holders themselves have grooves on them so the feeders sit nicely in the wire holders. They seem pretty sturdy, not cheap or flimsy glass at all. However, I would still use caution in placing them in and removing them as the glass red flowers are separate.

I would highly suggest getting some additional items such as the Wildlife Accessories "Trap-It" Ant moat http://www.amazon.com/Wildlife-Accessories-Trap-It-Ant-Trap-Green/dp/B000PBXETS. With my other humming bird feeder I had ants floating in the feeder within a matter of days. If this happens, the hummers won't want to feed and they have not come back to that feeder yet. I picked one up for $5.95 at my local specialty gardening place. This one has a metal hook all the way through so I am not concerned with it breaking like some that have plastic hooks. We have had some concerns out here about west nile virus/mosquitos so I put some dish soap in the water so they won't lay their eggs. I've also read people putting a few drops of cooking oil to slow the evaporation of the water and even valseline so the ants cannot cross. I thought about ease of cleaning up the little buggers, so I went with dish soap.

The other item I would suggest is the Perky-Pet 67 green Metal Hook for Bird Feeders. I had a wind chime that came crashing down when I put up the feeder. I assume it was some rat or squirrel who ate through the wire. I wanted to make sure they could not chew the wire and have this beautiful feeder come crashing down. I bought one for $1.68 at Home Depot. Duncraft 18814 Squirrel Proof Accent Selective Feeder Review

This is the best squirrel proof type of bird feeder there is - as far as I have been able to determine in several decades of trying to find such an article. I have owned many other types, including the Hertitage green metal monster weighted-perch feeders. I don't know how stupid your squirrels are, but here they just hang by one foot from the hanger or the perch joint of the Heritage feeders and stick their heads into the slot, holding the feeder open with their fat necks while they gorge themselves. Poles don't stop them. Greased poles don't stop them. Silicone spray and WD-40 don't stop them. They just keep working at it until they wear the stuff out.

This style of feeder, where the feeder itself is inside a substantial baffle, is the closest thing to squirrel proof I have found. I own several in different sizes. To successfully deter squirrels, look for these features: The baffle should be far enough from the tube or feeder that a squirrel absolutely cannot reach the feeder within. Ideally there should NOT be a tray on the bottom of the feeder. Spilled seed should be able to fall through to the ground for the ground feeding birds. If there is a tray, squirrels will just keep coming back for the seed they can reach near the edge, and so they will hang on the feeders preventing birds from coming.

Lately my squirrels have figured out how to chew the top of the plastic feed tube that extends above the baffle, just under the metal cap, until they open up the entire top of the feeder. If the manufacturers would fit a metal ring around the top of the feed tube, they could make this feeder even more squirrel-"proof".

Anyone who succeeds in devising a truly squirrel proof platform or perch type feeder should be awarded some kind of Nobel Prize!

We have six bird feeders in our yard of various types. This feeder is by far the least popular with the birds in my yard. I believe this is because it is more difficult for them to pull the black oil sunflower seeds through the screen than it is the other types. I have two other types of black oil sunflower feeders and the birds prefer them to this feeder. On the plus side, the unit is well built, pretty easy to clean, and should last a long time. Also, since it holds a lot of seed and the birds don't go through the seed very quickly, I only have to fill it up every couple months. As an aside, I also have the thistle version of this feeder which has a finer mesh screen, and it is one of the most popular feeders in my yard.

Aspects 393 Quick-Clean Seed Tube Feeder, Large - Brushed Nickel Review

I am so impressed with Aspects feeders. I have two now. One that I had for years even had bear teeth holes where bears had yearly gotten it and dragged it off into the woods. However, the plastic is so tough on these feeders that the bears never cracked the plastic and it was still usable. I sent the feeder back for new feet and got a new feeder! The feeders are very asthetic - the new brass color is gorgeous. The green color blends in nicely with the outdoors.
The company has amazing customer service if you need a part replaced or if the feeder has a problem - they have an excellent warantee. In fact, I have never met a company with such good customer service!
So, what more can I say. There are no cons. The new feeders are designed to drain water out the bottoms and they have pull out bottoms so you can add seeds, clean or rinse the feeder once a week (a must so bird diseases don't get transmitted). Also I recommend the large Aspects superdome or weather dome to go above the feeders. The super dome helps to keep my squirrels out and easily slips over the feeder. It also keeps the feeding birds dry in wet weather. It is made so that the metal wire top of the feeder (the hanging piece) just inserts into the dome and the dome sits snugly on top. These are sturdy, tough feeders that the birds love.

I have so many birds coming to this feeder - 4 species of woodpecker, titmice, chickadees, nuthatches, Carolina wrens, as well as bluebirds! I keep this feeder filled with these suet nuggets: Bluebird Nuggets

I really like that this is made out of recycled plastic, and that it won't rot like wooden feeders do. It also cleans up well.

I'm not crazy about the holes on the sides of this feeder (in the see-through acrylic part); most birds seem to use the holes on the two ends of the feeder instead, while the holes on the sides tend to let in some rain and allow the nuggets to spill out of them while you're filling the feeder.

Other than that small complaint, I recommended this feeder.
