Bluebird Feeder Review

This bird feeder arrived quickly, was packaged well and in perfect condition. I've used this design of feeder before and it is a big hit with my Backyard birds. It's easy to clean, to open for filling and stays closed while in use. The finish is a beautiful blue and looks lovely hanging in the yard. I use it for suet, seed, fruit or mealworms and all the small to medium song birds readily go right in including Downey Woodpeckers. Red-bellied Woodpeckers also use it reaching in with their long beaks. I'm very happy with this feeder.

Booda Products Soda Bottle Bird Feeder Review

We have had one of these for a year now and the birds love it. It works perfectly and is just the right size to encourage finches, nuthatches, chicadees, sparrows all while keeping the Jays and Mourning Doves off (they get the tray feeders). This feeder the first to empty, and you can't beat the price. We drilled a hole in the bottom of the bottle and hung it up with baler twine. I am ordering more and cannot wait to try the one that suction cups to the window.

Droll Yankees Domed Cage Feeder (Model B7DC) Review

It's important to know that while this may keep out squirrels, it WON'T keep out those "thug" birds.

I hung this feeder out today, because my local bird store told me it would keep out larger birds. Well, the grackles just love it. They've been hanging on it all day. Their long beaks easily reach through the cage to get the seed, and they've been jealously guarding it as their personal food source all morning. Sorry songbirds!

Songbird Essentials Dr. JB Switchable 48 oz. Feeder Bulk Size - 8.75L x 7W x 7H in. Review

Most importantly, it is important to know that if you live where you have one kind of territorial hummingbird that chase all others away then this feeder is overkill. I've fed hummingbirds in OR, NY, VA, and SC and had a hard time going through 16 ounces of nectar in a week in any of those places. At my mother's house in Northern CA, on the other hand, she goes through about a gallon a day year round.

After using many of the First Nature 3055 feeders at my mother's Northern CA home I got her the 48 oz Dr. JB's in the hopes that she could go more than a day in between filling her feeders (see the First Nature 3055 page for a picture of a feeder with 9 birds). She has more hummingbirds than I've ever seen anywhere else, and keeps 6 of the First Nature (32 oz) feeders up to get them through a day.

The Dr. JB's feeder obviously has size as an advantage (48 oz vs 32 oz, and even an 80 oz version!) but the downside is that there are only 4 ports on the Dr. JB's feeders vs 10 ports on the First Nature feeder. Since the only reason to have a feeder that holds 48 or 80 oz is because you feed a high volume of birds, 4 ports is just not enough and so I've knocked off a star.

Otherwise the feeder is great; solid construction, easy to dissasemble, easy to clean.

I'm thinking about drilling more holes in the feeder to allow more birds to eat at once. Will report back if we try that.
