THIS FEEDER HAS DONE PART OF WHAT IT WAS MEANT TO DO. IT HAS DETERRED THE RESIDENT SQUIRRELS, ALTHOUGH THEY TRY. IT HAS DETERRED THE STARLINGS AS WELL. IT HAS EVEN DETERRED THE HOUSE SPARROWS. UNFORTUNATELY IT HAS ALSO DETERRED THE DESIRED BIRDS. THIS FEEDER HAS BEEN UP FOR A MONTH AND SO FAR I HAVE SEEN A TITMOUSE ACTUALLY INSIDE THE CAGE ON TWO OCCASIONS, AND JUST YESTERDAY SAW A DOWNY WOODPECKER FEEDING FOR THE FIRST TIME. I'VE SEEN ANOTHER TITMOUSE HANGING ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE CAGE TRYING TO FIGURE A WAY TO GET IN. AS FAR AS QUALITY GOES, IT SEEMS WELL MADE, ALTHOUGH IT'S A LITTLE TRICKY GETTING THE LID FASTENED CORRECTLY. I STILL KEEP FINDING WAYWARD PEANUTS IN MY LAUNDRY ROOM FROM MY FIRST ATTEMPT AT GETTING THE LID SECURED. IT FELT TIGHT, BUT AS I FOUND OUT THE HARD WAY, IT WASN'T COMPLETELY FASTENED. I HOPING THE BIRDS WILL FINALLY FIGURE OUT HOW TO GET INSIDE THE CAGE AND FEED.

After owning this feeder for nearly two years now, I can say that the smaller birds such Downy Woodpecker, Carolina Chickadees, and unfortunately House Sparrow have found their way into this feeder. Even the Dark-eyed Juncos fed in this feeder last this past winter after a record snowstorm. However it is still extremely difficult to close properly, so I would probably go with another feeder with a cage.
