Most importantly, it is important to know that if you live where you have one kind of territorial hummingbird that chase all others away then this feeder is overkill. I've fed hummingbirds in OR, NY, VA, and SC and had a hard time going through 16 ounces of nectar in a week in any of those places. At my mother's house in Northern CA, on the other hand, she goes through about a gallon a day year round.

After using many of the First Nature 3055 feeders at my mother's Northern CA home I got her the 48 oz Dr. JB's in the hopes that she could go more than a day in between filling her feeders (see the First Nature 3055 page for a picture of a feeder with 9 birds). She has more hummingbirds than I've ever seen anywhere else, and keeps 6 of the First Nature (32 oz) feeders up to get them through a day.

The Dr. JB's feeder obviously has size as an advantage (48 oz vs 32 oz, and even an 80 oz version!) but the downside is that there are only 4 ports on the Dr. JB's feeders vs 10 ports on the First Nature feeder. Since the only reason to have a feeder that holds 48 or 80 oz is because you feed a high volume of birds, 4 ports is just not enough and so I've knocked off a star.

Otherwise the feeder is great; solid construction, easy to dissasemble, easy to clean.

I'm thinking about drilling more holes in the feeder to allow more birds to eat at once. Will report back if we try that.
