This feeder is easy to fill, looks lovely, and is attracting different birds to my yard. I use suet that has hot pepper in it, so the squirrels aren't interested. I had read that "squirrel-proof" feeders often have drawbacks (birds can get stuck in them or they are a nuisance to fill). This one doesn't have any squirrel barriers but with the pepper suet, it doesn't need it. The birds don't have any trouble getting to the food and the little roof protects the suet from the rain. Some feeders have a paddle that hangs down and provides support for bigger birds. I have one large woodpecker that comes to this feeder and he would probably like to have a paddle for extra support but he definitely manages to eat without it. It's a great addition to my yard.
