I live on the third floor of a 3-family house with no trees nearby the windows, so if I want a bird-feeder that I can watch from my easy chair I need a window-feeder. But our windows are just above a second-floor "roof", so the squirrels have easy access. The first window-feeder I got couldn't withstand the fluffy-tailed onslaught, so I sought out this one as an alternative.

First, the bad news. This feeder is not so much "Squirrel-Proof as "Squirrel-Resistant". A smart and persistent squirrel with access will pry at every opening, looking for a way in. The top can be opened - with effort and persistence - and it has a large enough hole for their head to get thru. I solved this by applying a thin film of squirrel repellant, so they couldn't take the time required. They still, on occasion, will grab on and use their little fingers to rake seeds out of the feeder and onto the roof, where they can munch and crunch at their leisure. The four large suction cups that hold the feeder to the window are strong enough that the feeder has never been knocked off.

But, the good news is getting seed out takes a large amount of effort, so the squirrels only stop by when their other food sources are blocked. This means for most of the day, every day, the sparrows and chickadees have free access to the feeder. For me this is "good enough". And if the squirrels get too greedy, I simply open the window and use a squirt gun to chase them off. They eventually get the message.
