Smooth surface will brush out or dump out easily, but is part of the feeder and will not blow or fall out. This feeder also has a wider roof and end plat uprights to protect seed from wind and rain. 12-pound mixed seed capacity. Comes with a chain for hanging. 13-inch w by 10-3/4-inch h by 17-1/2-inch l. Stovall products feature all cedar construction, stainless steel and dichromate plated screws, washers, hooks and chains, hand sanded, assembled with screws, many products coated with wood protector which accents the wood grain and the natural warmth of cedar. Environmentally green practices – hand sorted down graded lumber. The Shop is heated with scrap wood, cooled with natural shade and insulation, nestled in a glen among 25+ acres of beech/maple/oak forest. The Stovall 3FHP Medium Flip Top Feeder is a nicely constructed wood feeder; however one of the clear plastic side panels was received warped. The defect was not bad enough to warrant return of the complete unit, but no contact information was provided for Stovall customer service. I was unable to locate the company with an internet search. One caution, as noted in the description this unit cannot be post mounted without modification, an alternate post mount model is listed on Amazon. Had the side panel not been warped, or had I been able to get a replacement I would have rated the feeder "5".
