This is the third solar crackle ball bird feeder that I have purchased - the other 2 were purchased a couple of years ago and the style has changed slightly. Instead of 4 small exposed lights in the top, the lights are enclosed in tubes that run down each corner. I think that this change will protect the lights. One of the older models has had a light damaged by the birds or squirrels. These feeders hold up very well and the older feeders stay lit for a long time each evening. I have never had to recharge or change the batteries.
