After many years my concrete bird bath cracked and had to be discarded. Having grown a good deal older since I first set up the heavy concrete bath, I thought about trying this plastic bird bath because its light weight would make setting it up a lot easier. I ordered it about a year ago and have been uniformly pleased with it.

This plastic bird bath has somewhat the look of concrete but proved far easier to put in place. In fact, for stability, I filled its column halfway with sand per the instructions (and placed it on a flat paver). The bowl screws into the column, making these components a structural unit--a positive feature. The bowl is shallower than my old concrete bird bath, but this seems to benefit the smaller birds. The shallow bowl needs to be refilled more often, thus keeping the water cleaner.

I was constantly scrubbing algae out of the concrete bath, but seldom have to do so with the plastic one--not sure why. Swishing it out with the garden hose while refilling, plus an occasional brushing with bleach solution are all the maintenance it needs. Once, after a rainy spell, it showed a fairly extensive coating of algae. I was surprised how quickly the application of bleach cleaned it up like new (rinse thoroughly afterward).

The bottom line is that this bird bath is in my experience a very good product. Recommended.
