The birds love eating thistle seed from this sock feeder. A sock full of seed will last about 36 hours in our front yard. The sock does not get too dirty, and can be easily cleaned under running water. We have not yet gotten into the rainy season, so I am not sure how well a full sock will hold up under a mesquite tree branch - we'll see. I also bought the sock without the plastic dome top to compare how they hold up to the rainy season, uv rays, and other wear and tear.
