I hope the company adds a cotton enclosure to cover the metal platform to their supplies for this bird house. It's a lovely bird house but this spring much of the birds' the nest fillings fell through the aluminum mesh nest platform down into the cavity below. For 2013 I've sewn a cotton enclosure sack (from thin white t-shirt fabric) to cover completely both sides of the metal platform. I've also sewn thin cloth ties on each side where the "spikes" fit to hold the platform in place so it won't slip down on one side or the other. I tied the cotton-covered metal platform to the black bars on each side, then I cut off the extra length of the ties so they would not be a problem for the birds.
