I first bought safflower seed because it's said that squirrels will leave it alone. Yeah, sure they will (NOT! Not "our" squirrels anyway. They seemed quite content to stuff themselves on this pricey feed.) Nonetheless, it is a great seed for attracting both gold and house finches where we live on the east coast. I rigged up a high overhead line with a small feeder (that can be lowered for refills) so the squirrels can't reach it. The finches come by the dozens. Chickadees, titmouses, and cardinals seem to like it as well. I have found safflower seed for a better price at a local chain pet store so unless the Amazon price drops to something comparable, I'm unlikely to purchase it here again.
